This study of grief responses in patients admitted to an alcohol & drug treatment centre (n=50) supports conclusions drawn from other research that loss of a close interpersonal relationship could be a predictor of suicide but depression alone was not a sufficient precondition. The more stable, conscientious person displayed guilt or depression. Homicidal & suicidal gestures were seen in egocentric & sociopathic personalities. (NBB)
