A survey of Washington, D.C. physicians revealed wide variation in the symptoms used to diagnose depression & knowledge by nearly half of the respondents of suicide attempts among patients under 14 years of age. The authors state this study confirms the need for development of more precise, uniform diagnostic standards & effective intervention techniques. 5 myths about childhood depression & self destructive behavior are examined.
