In the 8 years from 1975 to 1982, 11262 coronial autopsies were performed in the School of Medicine, Auckland. 394 of the deaths were due to the action of a drug or poison. In this paper we examine the motives & circumstances, age and sex distribution, drugs used & other aspects of these 394 deaths.
