An ecological study of attempted suicides admitted to the emergency facilities of all hospitals in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, during 1962. Of the 159 cases studied, 80 were male, 79 were female, ranging in age from 15-75. Epidemiologic & demographic factors & characteristics are discussed. 101 (63.3%) were hospitalized following their attempt. The follow-up, which was based on coroners’ records of 23-35 months, revealed 5 (3.1%) had completed suicide in subsequent attempts.
