States in the U.S.A. with stricter handgun control laws appeared to have lower suicide rates overall & lower suicide rates by firearms in particular. No preventive effect from strict handgun control laws was found for homicide. Restrictions on the buying & the selling of handguns appeared to be more important than restrictions on the carrying of handguns.
