A follow up study was conducted among 161 psychiatric patients over a period of 9.6 years in an attempt to determine the relationship between endogenous depression & suicidal behavior. Suicide was committed by 8 patients (5%) & attempted by 66 (41%). Females were predominant in both attempted & completed suicides. The highest number of attempts occurred during first manifestations of illness (22%) & then decreased from relapse to relapse. (NBB)
