Parasuicide patients not requiring specific psychiatric treatment were divided into 3 groups for follow-up after discharge: 1) received home visits by a psychiatric nurse; 2) offered appointments with a volunteer nonhospital support organization; 3) referred back to the family doctor. After 12 months, statistically insignificant results suggested a higher recurrence rate in Group 1 compared with the other 2 groups. Considers implications of this finding. (9 refs.) (KM)
