The author states that the school counselor must use active listening skills to identify suicidal ideation in troubled students. Ideally a network of concerned faculty & staff could refer potentially self destructive youths to the counselor if they were trained to identify situational clues such as depression, expressions of hopelessness & helplessness or loss.
