This study of the pituitary adrenal system in depressed patients examined the utility of the dexamethasone suppression test in identifying a clinically meaningful subtype of depression. 49 inpatients diagnosed as having a major clinical assessments. Those assessed as nonsuppressors of dexamethasone most often belonged to the primary depression subtype & wererated as having a good response to treatment. (NBB)
