This comparison study of 256 hospitalized adults who had experienced parental loss in childhood & 65 matched subjects from the general population revealed certain factors that minimize the traumatic effects of such loss: an intact home & network of family &/or community resources; a satisfactory prior relationship with the deceased parents; a strong surviving parent able to assume a dual role effectively & the development of seperation tolerance.(NBB)
