To determine how a cohort of patients admitted to a mental health centre in a single month used the centre’s clinical services over a year’s time, an index of service utilization for each patient was developed. Results of the X2 test & multivariate analysis indicated no single sociodemographic variable predicted high utilization of services. Most patients had brief encounters with the centre; most services were delivered to a small, severely disturbed group.(NBB)
