Details of a fatal case of drug overdose with lithium carbonate are provided in this article. It is suggested that a progressive increase in serum lithium concentration for 48 hours after ingestion reflects prolonged absorption of this drug from the gastriointestinal tract. Simultaneous peritoneal dialysis & hemodialysis rapidly reduced serum lithium concentrate but there was little change in the patients level of consciousness.(NBB)
