The Welfare Information Service (now AID Service of Edmonton) was formed in 1960 as a result of a study indicating a need for a central information & referral service. Other agencies evolving from W.I.S. are: the distress line in 1972; the Suicide Prevention Program in 1976; crisis outreach & referral evaluation in 1979; & the Edmonton suicide bereavement program in 1982.(NBB)
