This article is a summary of Rudestam’s original study which compared 50 cases of suicide in Sweden to a like number from the U.S., using the psychological autopsy method. Results suggested that while several aspects of suicide were similiar in both countries(ie: communication of intent) certain qualities of Swedish culture–viz., secularism, pacifism, & egalitarianism–appear to have been reflected in the Swedish suicide data.(NBB)
