Since the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, 761 confirmed suicides & 319 possible suicides have been recorded. It is also the only suicide landmark that does not have a suicide barrier. Factors cited by the Bridge District against taking preventative action, including the belief that potential jumpers would simply find another place to commit suicide, are explored and refuted by the authors.(NBB)
