The controversy concerning whether too much writing about death can lead to death is examined based on an analysis of the lives & writings of Cesare Pavese & Joseph Conrad. It is concluded that, while there may well be risk writing, there is also writing that serves as rescue & writing that participates in neither characteristic. (13 refs.)
