Examination of the death register in the Municipal Health Department of the City of Beirut revealed 120 suicidal deaths during the 5 year period 1968-72. A preponderance of male over female deaths & those in the young adult ages was apparent. This is in conformity with studies from other countries. The most commonly used method in commiting suicide was poisoning by the various pesticides particularly “Demol”. The preventive aspects of this important public healthproblem are discussed.
