The present study was conducted between Dec 1 1973 & Dec 31 1980. Of 1510 subjects, 1478 (97.9%) were traced (N=1252 males, 226 females). There were 194 deaths during this period, 160 male & 34 female. The main causes of death were cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, suicide and neoplastic. Compared with the 1973 study, there was a marked decrease in deaths due to renal disease & the abuse of alcohol & a marked increase in deaths due to suicide.
