This study explores associations between the cerebral event-related slow potentials and psychiatric symptoms and syndromes as reflected by the Present State Examination in 36 randomly selected psychiatric in-patients. Independent raters measured the readiness potential, contingent negative variation and post-imperative negative variation in terms of their amplitude and duration. Results are discussed and the implications of the electrophysiological correlates of psychopathology were discussed.
