The history of a suicidal psychiatric patient & the author’s impressions of her prognosis are described. After her parents separated & her mother died, Geraldine lived with her aunt, who was not interested in her. She began taking drugs & eventually attempted suicide by drug overdose. During psychiatric treatment, Geraldine reacted to the restrictive inpatient environment with tantrums & another suicide attempt. (RM)
