The theoretical framework of pediatric psychiatric crisis intervention is reviewed & a system of classification is proposed. Epidemiological features & some general family characteristics of child psychiatric emergency patients are reviewed & commonly encountered problems in the first family interviewed are addressed, with a primary focus on suicidal patients & their families. The importance of a quick but satisfactory assessment & immediate therapeutic intervention is underlined.
