The academic environment can cause a suicidal crisis. Grading, testing, ability tracking, and homework all contribute to untold failure and despair. They should be replaced with a success-oriented structure that is democratic rather than authoritarian. Presently a definitive correlation between school failure and suicide is unavailable but the likelihood of suicide being minimized by modification of the education system is great. (GW)
