This article examines the American judicial decision-making process in cases involving the refusal of medical treatment, particularly those which result in suicide. Pertinent personal rights & state interests are discussed. A methodology for judicial decision-making is suggested. A discussion of specific cases & legal judgments are included. (140 refs) (SC)
