In 13 principal labor market areas of Pennsylvania, suicide rates between 1954-1961 are compared with unemployment rates for the same period. Findings suggest that drift towards unemployment on the part of persons in whom suicide is impending probably accounts for the high proportion of unemployed found among suicide victims, & at least in the past decade, unemployment has not been an important factor in the etiology of suicide.
