The mortality rate for persons in Stockholm in 1905 was investigated for a 9-year period (1971-79). Subjects were invited to participate in a health check-up in 1971. Another check-up was carried out 3 years later & included a psychiatric examination. Findings indicated an excess mortality among (1) persons with depressive symptoms than those without (2) those who did not participate in health check-ups & (3) higher suicide rates in non-responders.
