The relationship of adolescent suicide to family problems, interpersonal stress & social isolation, studied by the SPCC of San Mateo County, California, led to the formation of a counselling program for suicidal youth. 17 adolescents participated in 35 meetings over a period of 40 weeks. The group functioned as a support system, helping participants develop self esteem & coping behaviors. Follow up after 2 years revealed no suicide among group members.(NBB)
