The authors point out that a model viewing suicide as the consequence of the distortion of perception or judgment which characterizes individuals who are psychiatrically ill is the most useful & valid framework for conceptualizing its causes. Using this model, they examine different ways of obtaining information about child/adolescent suicide. The validity & reliability of official statistics are discussed as well as the usefulness of the psychological autopsy.
