Briefly surveys previous studies of suicide in the Black ghetto which have linked it to the stressful circumstances of ghetto life; however explanatory hypotheses have not tried to differentiate psychological & environmental variables in the etiology of suicide. The study used the Life Crisis Inventory to collect, compare, & evaluate data from 300 middle-class suicide attempters in New York City with data from 423 Black attempters in a New Jersey Ghetto.
