Regan states”the moral status of suicide depends on whether there is anything one really ought to do with one’s life.” (p.290) He reviews Kantian & Utilitarian philosophies, stating that neither make statements as to the purpose of one’s life. Regan’s philosophy favours appreciation of natural & cultural objects, & the enjoyment of satisfying relationships with others; he implies a duty to foster these values in others.(NBB)
