Adler’s psychoanalytic principles are illustrated by applying them to the life & suicide of Marilyn Monroe. Rather than inquiring into the sources of her maladjustment, Adler would have asked what she was trying to accomplish by a given act. Therapy would have focused on helping her gain a life goal with more social usefulness.
