Risk of Suicide in the Relatives of Schizophrenics, Manics, Depressives, and Controls

The risk of suicide among first-degree relatives of 195 schizophrenic, 100 manic, 225 depressed and 100 surgical controls were compared. A higher risk of suicide among relatives of psychiatric patients over controls was found. Relatives of psychiatric patients who had committed suicide showed significantly higher risk of suicide than the remaining relatives.(WL)
