For 6 months, a college student met weekly with 11 girls, aged 12 to 14, who were considered delinquent, sexually promiscuous, used illegal drugs, did poorly in school, & felt rejected by parents. Meetings focused mostly on sexual concerns. Despite the girls’ high risk for serious problems, none occurred during the 6 months, & 2 girls who had attempted suicide no longer saw this as a solution. The girls also showed increased self-esteem & motivation in school. (6 refs) (RM)
