This article takes a look at how pediatricians can be a significant resource in preventing adolescent suicide. The classification of teens at high risk of suicide is categorized into 6 groups which are briefly outlined. A discussion of the management of the suicidal patient is also presented. This includes having the pediatrician attempt to determine the reason for the suicidal action, investigate the seriousness of the suicidal behaviour, & assess the adolescent’s support systems.
