This article examined suicide attempts in young Swedish females who were pregnant. Data on 1727 children & adolescents under 21 years, who made suicidal attempts during the years 1955-1959, was analyzed. 1376 were female, of which 78 were pregnant at the time of the suicidal act. Less than 50% of these 78 females indicated pregnancy as the provoking incident. The largest percentage of suicidal attempts was made during the second & third month of pregnancy. In four cases (5.1%) the suicidal act was provoked by the rejection of an application for abortion. (17 refs) (SC)
