Brief paper describes the variances that contribute to the understanding of any treatment of suicide and are identified as: patient variables, therapist variables, and treatment environment and the wider social milieu. Discussed are guidelines for suicidal prevention in the therapeutic relationship, in the treatment setting and in the community.
