This proceeding analyzes the suicidal behavior of hunger strikes. Cultural & political reasons of the Irish hunger strikers of 1981 are provided. A biography of Bobby Sands & a segment of the Irish population that he represents are included. Suicide in the context of prolonged war culture is discussed. (SC)
