This report discusses the life of Robert Schumann, one of the leading 19th century German Romantic composers, who attempted on one, and possibly two occasions to commit suicide. There is a strong family history of depression and emotional disorder in his family. The medical records of Robert’s hospitalization are lost, however the study is based on extracts from his diaries and correspondence.
