Discusses the special needs of staff following the suicide of a patient in psychiatric wards. The staff need support, & must be made aware of legal issues. A crisis intervention model developed by Aguilera & Messick is used as a theoretical framework for a proposed management theory. This theory is developed, in terms of balancing factors absent or present, with outcomes of staff crisis or no crisis. 11 recommendations are made in summary. (RM)
