This paper presents a conceptual model of the role of cognitive factors in suicidal behaviour (reviewing Beck’s Cognitive Therapy), a review of relevant empirical data, and a broadened conceptualization of hopelessness, identifying individual differences in reasons for hopelessness (social dependence and autonomy).
