This article describes Baechler’s typology of suicide which is defined as all behavior that seeks & finds the solution to an existential problem by making an attempt on the life ofthe subject. According to Baechler, suicide is not caused byenvironmental forces or an unconsciously motivated suicidal tendency but rather is a purposeful, meaningful act chosen by an individual to solve a problem of living. 4 classifications of suicide & 11 subcategories are briefly outlined.
