This presentation discussed the relationship between the 1970-71 subway suicide epidemic in metropolitan Toronto & the reporting of suicide behaviour in the major daily newspaper. Newspaper articles were examined for the three-year pre- & post-epidemic periods as well as for the epidemic period itself. Frequency distributions were established & plotted against the dates of known subway suicides. Findings were reported & methodological problems of other studies were discussed.
