This editorial discusses suicide among American adolescents. Social & individual factors that contribute to suicide are reviewed. Some cases in which there seemed to be no apparent motive for suicide are described. A discussion of adolescent suicide attempts follows. The author concludes by stating that it is reasonable to assume that a certain number of suicides could be prevented by encouraging teenagers to establish supportive relationships with family & friends.
