Seven common causes of depression in the young are discussed. The classic signs of depression ie. nervousness, crying, loss of weight, withdrawal & expressed feelings of worthlessness are more often seen in the teenage population, whereas for the younger it may take on the form of irritabililty, anger, hyperactive, destructive behavior and poor performance in school. For those under 18, treatment should involve the whole family. (GW)
