This article analyses characteristics of 100 male inmates who exhibited self-destructive & suicidal behaviors in a psychiatric unit of a prison in Huntsville, Texas. Results indicate that these self-mutilators were more likely to be Latin, come from a large family, be sexually inadequate or homosexual, & have committed violent crimes. (9 refs) (SC)
