This essay is on the psychopathology of the will. Its focus is on the life of suicide not the act. This “life” occurs when the act-as-possibility, quite apart from whether it eventually occurs or not has a life of its own. Being the author of one’s own death holds a seductive fascination for some. Pride traps one into self justification & self absorption. The drama of suicide is viewed as chance for self-expression that others have forced upon him.
