Suicide ranked 10th among the leading causes of death in Virginia in 1967. The majority of suicides were in the 45-54 age group. It was indicated that 126 of the state’s 559 suicides in 1967 were in that age group. The next youngest & next oldest groups had the 2nd & 3rd highest totals: the 55-64 group registered the next highest with 119; the 35-44 category had 111 suicides. The State’s resident suicide rate was 12.1 per 100,000 population for 1967.
