Data on suicide rates for males age 20-64 by occupation and industry for 1950 are examined. 2 hypotheses are tested. The 1st, a static hypothesis relating variations in suicide with the size of the group from which choice of significant others is made, was not supported. The 2nd, in which variations in suicide are related to changes in the size of the group from which significant others are selected, is supported.
