Depression may be defined as a state characterized by feelings of unworthiness & by psychomotor retardation. Depression is more evasive in youngsters than in adults. This article discusses the mechanisms, clinical manifestations & management of depression in young patients. Some suicidal attempts & threats made by young people are dramatic plays for sympathy but on the other hand they are often not without positive adaptive value. (TC)
