Reports on the work of the American Psychiatric Association’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention. Preliminary data indicate that physician suicides are not over-reported, suicide rates vary from country to country. Suicide is a high risk for physicians, the suicide rate is higher for female physicians than males, & psychiatry has more suicides than other medical specialties. The physician’s general resistance to, & delay in seeking, psychiatric help in stressed.
