The causes of the high Danish suicide rates are not clear. Comparison is made between 3 separate periods (1936-1938 and 1951-1953), both in Denmark and in several other countries. It is found that whereas the rates for the 2 later periods, the opposite is the case, almost invariably, in the other countries chosen for comparison.
